Seeing the big picture… wide cone of vision and a TED talk

Seeing the big picture… wide cone of vision and a TED talk

child learning vs adult learningFinally a TED talk that explains why seeing the big picture is such an amazing capacity. Why it can alter your life. Why it allows you to learn. Why it takes you out of the fear of making mistakes…

It also explains why “normal” adults stop being able to learn, experiment, be creative…

One student asks:

If I have identified something as worth having/knowing, when I set out to read a book or take a class, if there is an agenda there, what do I do with that agenda? How, if I could, would I abandon what I think I should be going after to pursue life as more of an experiment? Does the courage to walk away from what I think is the path, the missing piece?

The agenda he is talking about is the “economical” little (or big) piece you want out of your activity. And once you fix what you want, you’ll see nothing else, like a machine.

No creativity, no growth, no experimentation. Dull. Boring. And a perfect waste of a life.

Could reading Charlie Munger’s favorite books be considered being mentored by Charlie Munger?

Could reading Charlie Munger’s favorite books be considered being mentored by Charlie Munger?

Could, reading Charlie Munger’s favorite books be considered being mentored by Charlie Munger? 1 Or how to learn to do what people did through reading what they read… So you can do it too. So you can see what they saw.

People with humility and success quote a lot. They know where their views, where their knowledge comes from. And their knowledge is deep, instinctive driver of actions. Not book knowledge, not Trivial Pursuit knowledge. NOT Tree of Knowledge.

I read eclectically. The next few books that are on my list now come from Charlie Munger’s suggestions.

He sees things I don’t. He has wisdom I don’t. What he reads has something to do with it. How he reads, how he thinks… He says: “Becoming rational is a slow, arduous process.” You need to build up to developing that skill. Most of us have very small capacity to use our brains. But it can only be grown like a sculpture. So most don’t even start.

Awareness: what the heck is that? A word… OK. But what does it mean?

Awareness: what the heck is that? A word… OK. But what does it mean?

It is said that awareness 2 , the awareness factor is the best predictor of someone’s chances for success.

Simply put: your awareness is a measure that expresses how far your head is out of your anus, and how much of what you see, hear, feel reaches your conscious awareness and triggers an APPROPRIATE response there.

That is quite a mouthful, right? So to make it easier, I am going to speak computer language… if you don’t understand, I am sorry. I use many different analogies later on in this article, so just hang in there… OK?

The brain receives all the signals the sensory organs provide, but is selective about bringing it to the conscious, because of bandwidth limitations. Continue reading “Awareness: what the heck is that? A word… OK. But what does it mean?”

How The Tree of Knowledge goes against nature…

How The Tree of Knowledge goes against nature…

sensations-the-need-for-a-new-scienceHow The Tree of Knowledge goes against nature… on the level of individual. Case studies

The insights of this article came from participants. The insights could not have come without participants looking at their behavior and attitude from the sensations perspective, which is the Tree of Life, working with what nature intended.

On a sidenote: I don’t think nature intended 99% of humans to be obsolete and be replaced by Artificial Intelligence. I think nature intended evolution on a more human trajectory.

But back to what we have discovered, what we have observed, what we have gleaned.

First off: I will begin calling the feelings that come through the senses: Sensations. I think that the book should be re-christened as well… but it is really not up to me.

I’ll organize the observations by the soul correction… but you may find your limiting behavior in any soul correction. Continue reading “How The Tree of Knowledge goes against nature…”

Long winter may be the secret of high achievers

dante infernoThis article is about using guidance, but not for its truth value, but in spite of its truth value. 3

Tai’s 67 steps program coupled with my coaching is the perfect growth program.

It’s not because of me, it is not because of the steps either but because of its structural essence.

Your beingness… the inner guidance underneath it all

Your beingness… the inner guidance underneath it all

Not surprisingly, I hope, the difference between homo sapiens (thinking man) and Human Being is this elusive “thing”: beingness.

Beingness does not respond to words.
  • Beingness does not respond to words. Not even “declarations!”
  • It doesn’t respond to force, not even to force of will.
  • It doesn’t really respond to feelings either.
  • And: IMPORTANT! is not created by doing

Discouraged often? Having doubts doesn’t mean that

Discouraged often? Having doubts doesn’t mean that

My father was never discouraged. Not that he didn’t show it… he wasn’t discouraged. I remember him having doubts, whether something could work, but not discouraged. Discouraged means having lost confidence or enthusiasm; disheartened.

So what did he have that most of you don’t have?

Let’s see first what discourage is on the level of feelings, and feelings dynamics? Because unless we know how a feeling is born, at the end of what process, we have no idea how to counter it. Continue reading “Discouraged often? Having doubts doesn’t mean that”

If your life feels like a roller coaster ride… If all your attempts at improving your life make it worse…

If your life feels like a roller coaster ride… If all your attempts at improving your life make it worse…

Cone vision can be wide and narrow, or Short and long… This distinction was driven up today by a student question: He watched the movie “The Founder” about Ray Kroc of MacDonald’s fame.

I haven’t watched the movie, but in it, according to the student, Ray Kroc was offered the chance to sell franchises to the MacDonald method of making and selling food. To the student’s sensibilities: Ray Kroc was shortchanged: the deal was not a win-win. And having to always be in an obvious win-win is one of his preferences… and therein lies his no success… Let me talk about what is happening in a long article.

Everything you see can be looked at many ways. In this article I will talk about seeing inside the visible.

Pushing on a string.. Sometimes you are the pusher, other times you are the string

Around the time when I graduated from Architecture School, my brother impregnated a woman 10 years his senior, who wanted to get married.

I recommended that he pay for her abortion and call it quits. Continue reading “Pushing on a string. You are the pusher, or the string”

What will it take to steer your life to the good life?

What will it take to steer your life to the good life?

I don’t want to change you into my vision of you. Rather, I want to motivate you into becoming the person you are capable of becoming.

– Life Mapping (Bill Cohen)

Display and existence. These are two Landmark Education distinctions.

As I am looking at my students, the biggest missing is not intelligence, not diligence, it is these two distinctions. Continue reading “What will it take to steer your life to the good life?”
