Self-expression: what is the Self you are expressing?

Self-expression: what is the Self you are expressing?

what is the self?People throw around the words: self-expression, but what is the self? I have never found a person who knows what it means… and if it means what THEY mean.

Most people look how you express yourself not what it is you express…

Meaning: I am letting my hair down… I am loud and obnoxious, I am funny, I am demanding… these are all how expressions.

This article is about “what” not “how”…

What is the Self you express with everything… your life, your job, your relationships, with your music, poetry, and your life.

There are two selves, and the reason life doesn’t work for most of us is because the two selves are not connected in any way.

  • Self 1: your genes, your desire to survive and procreate.
  • Self 2: your human desire to be higher than just your genes… to live your higher self.

Self in the expression of the higher self, is the evolved self. The self Shakespeare means: To thine own self be true.

I just distinguished something about humility: Humility and growth mindset are synonymous.

Lack of humility and fixed mindset are also synonymous.

From time to time I run experiments where I work with one student beyond what they pay for, to test out a methodology I hope will be instructive and will work for most students.

Most people have a fixed mindset.

What does fixed mindset have to do with skills?

Unfortunately a whole lot. Why unfortunately? Because if you have fixed mindset, you somehow, magically, think that skills are innate and you don’t have to learn them.

But neither knowledge, nor skills are innate: humans were designed to be shaped by their own actions primarily. That means: your genetic heritage counts about 10% of who you are, and 90% comes from environmental influences, including your own efforts, attitudes, and actions.

One will say: bummer. Another will say: thank god.

And both will be right…

The dumbing down of the planet: the law of attraction

The dumbing down of the planet: the law of attraction
magnets of the law of attractionWhat if the law of attraction is just another way to keep you duped, unthinking, unproductive, and a slave?

Just think with me, please:

I am going to filter the Law of Attraction through my own life, my own experiences instead of giving you made-up examples, ok?

OK, let us track this “conspiracy” I call “the law of attraction” from now on backwards.

Question: who is attracted to the law of attraction? The one that has self-confidence or the one without? Continue reading “The dumbing down of the planet: the law of attraction”

The dynamics of your suffering, and misery explained

The dynamics of your suffering, and misery explained
laugh with them at yourselfFeedback is a 13th floor (Tree of Life) phenomenon…

If someone mocks you, laugh with them. It is obvious that humans, on the current level of evolution, live in comparison. I am better, smarter, richer, etc. than you/others.

So they mock you, judge you, try to change you. Normal.

You allow your ego to resist: you suffer. You allow your ego to fight back: you suffer.

The best way to deal with it is to laugh with them, agree with them. It takes the wind out of their sail.

All pain, all suffering comes from from your resistance, is the feeling of your own resistance. Continue reading “The dynamics of your suffering, and misery explained”

Not all complaints are created equal plus a funny story to wake you up

wake-up-dudeThis article may be the most important article you’ll ever read… This is not an exaggeration. Any day is a good day to wake up, but around these weeks of greed and herdlike stomping to get more stuff, it is especially a good time. So, as you understand, this is a wake up article…

We all say we hate complainers. And we all complain.

But is there any form of complaint that is not a downer, that is not a racket, that is a good thing?

I like to watch entire series of television shows on Netflix. If I don’t like it, I just start another one. No commercials, no TV needed, easy.

I watched Foyle’s War, a British series, and I was encouraged: well written, well played. So I started to watch a Swedish series, Wallander. Five stars… must be good.

Your attitude: are you mirroring the attitude of the other?

Your attitude: are you mirroring the attitude of the other?

confronted-by-alice-chaosI consider myself quite aware, quite present, and yet… I am still finding out stuff that I have had no idea about.

Your attitude, more often than not, comes as a mirror of your “opponent’s”… partner’s, “the other”.

One of the automatic behaviors happens without any thinking on our part: mirroring.

It is one of those phenomena when you act and then justify it later.

Example: I called on a participant yesterday, or was it on Monday?

I found myself tensing up, I found myself arguing.

The difference between you and me, is that I caught myself. What tipped me off is that I had no reason to be confronted, or confrontational. I was at peace about the topic, about the participant, about life. So suddenly hearing myself arguing was a dead giveaway.

4 Stages of Consciousness… where do YOU live?

Four stages of consciousness

This is another seven years old article…

I read an interesting article on consciousness today that opened my eyes to something:

You can ask a question of yourself, and depending on the answer you can locate yourself on the map of consciousness quite reliably. And you could ask the question “what is your vibrational frequency?” and though you have no numbers, you’ll know in what bracket you are by locating yourself on one of the stages.

The question is: What is my relationship to life? My life? Where is my consciousness?

There are four possible answers.

1. Life is happening to me.
2. Life is happening by me… i.e. I am causing my life
3. Life is happening through me… i.e. you are on this stage causing something to unfold through your special gift, or purpose
4. Life is me 1

Something historic may happen today… Unnoticed

Something historic may happen today… Unnoticed

Something historic may happen today and it probably will go unnoticed in the news. It’s something every man, woman, and child in the world should know about.

Before this event can make sense to you, there is a crucial bit of history you must first know …

July 16, marks the 40th Anniversary of the day man first stepped foot on the Moon.

It was indeed ‘one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.’ Continue reading “Something historic may happen today… Unnoticed”

Are you experiencing the “post holiday blues”?

Are you experiencing the “post holiday blues”?

In life, victory goes to the most adaptable… 2 says the law of self-selection. 3

The easiest to observe is yourself… when there is a long enough holiday: 4-day holidays are perfect.

If you get into the holiday mood: doing pretty much nothing… then you didn’t need a lot of adaptability: you probably habitually do a lot of nothing in any given day.

But the most important part is: how long does it take for you to get back into the swing of things… becoming productive, doing what there is to do, without sluggishness of complaint, or yearning to get back into holiday mode.

How do I know? I could say that I am watching you, but truth be told, I am watching myself, and getting back into workday mode has been very hard for me.

Choiceless freedom? Choiceless choice? Choiceless Awareness? Is Osho right about that?

Choiceless freedom? Choiceless choice? Choiceless Awareness? Is Osho right about that?

I am reading Osho, specifically his collection of talks on freedom.

He didn’t actually write any of his books, they are collections of his spontaneous daily talks in his ashrams to his devotees, answering questions.

One of the most intriguing concepts is this:

You want freedom. Freedom of choice.

And you find out that once you have chosen, anything, the scope of freedom gets reduced, diminished.

He suggests this experiment:

Stand up. Now raise one of your feet and stand on the other leg.
Now lift the other leg…

You can’t, can you?

This is how choice and freedom are connected.
