Lethargy, aimlessness, listlessness, the blahs, no ambition?

Lethargy, aimlessness, listlessness, the blahs, no ambition?

In the Wisdom Course I took more than 25 years ago, between Saturday and Sunday we had a homework. To write an autobiography through a filter of our choice.

The filter could be where you lived, who you live with, your love affairs, your schooling, your health, the sports you participated in… anything.

I don’t remember what filter I used then, but in this article I’ll do a little of that homework through the filter: depression. Continue reading “Lethargy, aimlessness, listlessness, the blahs, no ambition?”

What factors decide the quality of your life?

What factors decide the quality of your life?

What factors decide the quality of your life the experience?

Lots of sites talk about the quality of life… but essentially it can be boiled down to an experience. Emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual well-being. All feelings. All experience.

On the other hand we live in a culture that focuses on possession, on selling you something. So it says that owning stuff is what gives quality to your life. Luxury, riches… Continue reading “What factors decide the quality of your life?”

Success as the destination causes a failed life

Success as the destination causes a failed life

In fact, it is not just success, but any supposedly positive outcome. When it is the focus, when it is the destination, it will cause a failed life. As certainly as that the sun will come up in the morning.

I have a student who wants to be worthy.

The question to ask: why? Why would you want to be worthy?

All your wants are fueled by a desire to fix.

It is human nature, it is not personal. What is personal is what you want to fix… not the desire to fix. The desire to fix is universal. Continue reading “Success as the destination causes a failed life”

What makes something worthwhile to do, put energy into?

What makes something worthwhile to do, put energy into?

I learn a lot from some people, and next to nothing from others.

This teacher I have, a teacher whom I don’t like as a person has taught me more than maybe all the other teachers combined with just a sentence here and a sentence there.

Why? Because he doesn’t teach anything that he doesn’t personally need, uses, and find useful.

It is hard to imagine why I’d like to follow someone’s example, a person’s whom I don’t like, but there we are: I am following his example in many different ways. Continue reading “What makes something worthwhile to do, put energy into?”

Epigenetics… the path of human evolution or devolution
How I use the energy that I download during the Days of Power

After I moved out of my parents’ home into my own place, I met this guy who became my boy friend. My very first boy friend.

He was a philosophy student, son of a well known philosopher.

I didn’t understand a word they were speaking. When I typed up his thesis I bastardized some of the words, because I had no idea they weren’t typos. They didn’t look like regular words.

Here I am 53 years later. If you asked me what profession I have, I would say that I am closest to being a philosopher. Boggles the mind. Doesn’t it? lol Continue reading “Epigenetics… the path of human evolution or devolution”

Beyond the horizontal, beyond ambition, beyond desire…

Beyond the horizontal, ambition, desire… let’s see if we can make it all clear

climbing jacob's ladderI am re-reading Atlas Shrugged.

When the first two times I read it, I knew it was very important. but an essential aspect was missing for me. An aspect I just got a week or so ago.

This aspect, the difference between ambition and desire, that goes, hand in hand, with the word pairs, producer vs second hander, vertical plane vs horizontal plane. Continue reading “Beyond the horizontal, beyond ambition, beyond desire…”

The Masterskill… the secret nearly everyone misses

The Masterskill… the secret nearly everyone misses
Mental Bandwidth and what to do to increase it

If you ordered a large pizza but you had to share it with everyone in your neighborhood, then even after ordering a hundred of those, you would barely get a slice, right? Some teenagers can eat half of a large pizza themselves, so unless you protect your pizza, you’ll remain hungry.

If an internet company sells you service, but they have all their thousands of customers want to watch a movie, you’ll get a spotty connection and miss half the movie.

That is bandwidth… it is limited and the more people use it, the less remains for you. Continue reading “The Masterskill… the secret nearly everyone misses”

We humans have a strong need to be something

We humans have a strong need to be something

Actually, it’s the ego that has that need… but we all have an ego.

So if you know that, and you are intelligent, then you may ask the question: but how do you do that in a world with eight billion people, that are as smart or smarter than you are.

I said: if you are intelligent.

Chances are: you are not intelligent. Today’s world doesn’t seem to foster intelligence. Continue reading “We humans have a strong need to be something”

If you don’t manage yourself, someone, something else will

If you don’t manage yourself, someone, something else will

manage-yourself-for changeSo I guess it is that time again… when the broken faced child comes out of the woodwork…

I use this expression ‘broken face child’ as if I expected you to know what I am talking about… You probably don’t.

So let me explain: When you were little, things happened to you that were beyond your comprehension. You had to make up some story, some interpretation of what was happening. It is normal.

The ‘normal’ story everyone makes up  is this: ‘There is something wrong here. Either with me, or with them, or with the world, that’s why this is happening.’

Most of us made up: ‘There is something wrong with me.’ Continue reading “If you don’t manage yourself, someone, something else will”
