10 of the Most Surprising Findings from Psychology

Psychology has a reputation for being the science of common sense, or a field that simply confirms things we already know about ourselves.

One way of battling this misconception, explains Jeremy Dean — a PhD candidate in psychology and master of ceremonies at the always-awesome PsyBlog — is to “think about all the unexpected, surprising, and just plain weird findings that have popped out of psychology studies over the years.” Here are ten of his favorite examples.

  1. Cognitive dissonance

cognitive2This is perhaps one of the weirdest and most unsettling findings in psychology. Cognitive dissonance is the idea that we find it hard to hold two contradictory beliefs, so we unconsciously adjust one to make it fit with the other.

How we end up marrying the wrong people… really how?

Prince Charles, Prince of Wales with his fiance Lady Diana SI am against marriage.

Anyone who is FOR the Original Design has to be against marriage. Marriage is a contract. It is a legal institution mandating that you don’t change, that you don’t seek your own path, that you enslave yourself to the other, to the shared.

Until this past Wednesday I believed that it’s society that wants you to be enslaved, that wants you to forgo 1 your individuality, your chance of a life as a Human Being, but a conversation with a student introduced me to an aspect I wasn’t aware of: the HUSBAND. And probably the WIFE in many cases.

In the conversation with this student I was introduced to marriage as ownership. Yeah I have seen it in movies. Yeah… but movies are movies… and the reality of this aspect of marriage didn’t hit me with full force until it was right there for me to see as a formidable opponent in me guiding my student to become an Expanding Human Being…

Marriage is all about power

Marriage is all about power. Not personal power, political power… where politics is a term for “power over another”, or “power over others.” The stripping of others from their rights to be Human Beings… and reducing them to bumbling idiots, slaves, serfs, have not’s, lesser beings.

Politics is using another person for your own gratification, for your own “rise”, for your own benefit, without giving them value for value, equal rights.

Osho: Insomnia is a certain way of life, living

I like Osho. I have learned a certain way of looking at things from Osho. He has said things I would have never considered: he could see those and I could not.

I don’t agree with a lot of what Osho says, but that doesn’t say his stuff is not good… it is good stuff… I don’t think it can make a difference… It leaves you to deal with the hard stuff alone, and you won’t do it. Too bad… 🙁

Insomnia is not a disease. Insomnia is a certain way of life. Continue reading “Osho: Insomnia is a certain way of life, living”

Ten signs that you are on the path of spiritual awakening

I know your spirituality is a private matter, but your generosity, or the lack thereof, unfortunately, very visible to all, and felt by you: stinginess feels bad, trust me I have been there.

Sharing is generous. Especially when you don’t want to… Almost as effective in raising your vibration as the secret tool I have shared before, validation.

Ten signs that you are experiencing a spiritual awakening:

I had an “interesting” and terrifying experience this past week or two. My brain was taken over…

your brain is taken over by mediaIt started two weeks ago with not having a book to read. So I went back to watching Netflix movies.

I didn’t see that anything I can do will make a difference (yes, me! lol) so passing my time doing something that won’t matter was the “best” choice.

I picked a series called “Chuck” to watch. The series is about a guy who downloads the entire database of the CIA to his brain, and he can access it through flashing: i.e. when he sees something or someone that triggers a “search-found” result in that database.

Your emotional baseline and your chances for success

your-emotional-baselineI read a very interesting article 1 today. It is about being able to predict from how you were as a baby and toddler your chances for success, your chances for being smart, your chances for aberrant, deviant behavior, like crime or addictions.

And although most of you, if you read it, will be resigned to how you turned out, or alternatively argue till you are hoarse with the predictions, there is a more constructive way to read the article: get guidance.

Of course, if you are already having trouble in life, you are habitually relating to everything as a good reason to get depressed, turn to the bottle, get angry, or eat more m&m’s, but if you are not quite there, there is the guidance I recommend that you get:

All of those signs you demonstrated as a toddler are correctable by the Bach Flower Energies.

If you have a propensity for being impatient, wanting immediate gratification, not being able to hang in there and do what you need to do even if it is tedious, or unsuccessful at the moment, the Bach Flower Energy Impatience will increase your capacity for more patience, so you can actually get something done, learn something, hang in there.

Great Stuff I want you to See: Are you setting yourself up for failure? You probably are…

setting yourself up for failureMost of what we do, most of what we are taught, most of what we understand sets us up for failure.

I have a lot of success skills, and yet, I am not as successful as I’d like to be.

This past week I started a project of causing, consciously causing success in a particular endeavor, creating and marketing a new product largely unrelated to what I do on this blog.

I have been coming up against a lot of walls, fear, anxiety, overwhelm, wanting to stay comfortable.

And although I am doing this all with my eyes open, as an impartial observer, and I am starting to see methods to break through the blockages, I am sure I have more to learn.

Memorial Day Fun…

I don’t want to write a new post. I am working on something, and I am not ready. But that doesn’t mean that the blog should take a break, so here are some really funny pictures, some are profound, some are hilarious, and some are cruel.

I had a really good time collecting them for you.

If you have any comments, and you should, then please… for sure, make them. I’ll add to the post the ones that are astute. OK?

Have a great Memorial Day.
