Carol Tuttle — more reviews

MindValley is coming out with a new course, by Carol Tuttle. I don’t know Carol Tuttle… but I want to make sure I know how to advise my readers, my students, my clients… should they spend their money and their time with this course.

Of course the course is about making more money. Of course that is the answer to all misery: if you had money you would be happier… bah humbug. You would be just as miserable, with bragging rights.

But apart from that, a core issue, you want to fix your outside, your circumstances, so you can be well on the inside… utterly backwards, I want to be able to see the methodology without having to buy the course myself.

A student of mine keeps on talking about chakras, and chakra balancing and chakra healing… so I did a search. I found a review about Carol Tuttle by someone who knows about chakras: I don’t… Enjoy.

Three minute chakra testing? Bullshit. Beware the hype

Out of curiosity, when cruising another yoga blog, I responded to a flashing ad:

“Three Minute Chakra Test – take the test to find out which of your chakras are weak”.

Bullshit, I thought. But then decided to have an open mind and explore. Like yoga, you know.

I clicked, and answered three Agree/Disagree questions for each chakra. Of course, to receive my results, they needed my name and email. Ok, fair enough, I can unsubscribe straight away, right?

Next, a video started playing on the website promising to give me my detailed results, after a spiel about chakras. There was no progress bar or controls on this video, so I couldn’t fast-forward to my results. By now, I’m feeling all slimed up. This is icky!

I closed the page with the video and instead head over to check my email.

I read my results.

According to the Three Minute Chakra Test, ALL my chakras are Closed.

Bullshit.

I know how I answered, I have an in-depth understanding of chakras, and my answers did not point to seven Closed chakras.

Of course, the email then directs you to product information to ‘heal’ these closed or weak chakras.

By now, I’m pissed off. This product has yoga tie-ins, and is advertised on yoga websites. Yet it’s messing with people in order to make them believe they have a problem – often vulnerable people reaching out for help via the ‘net.

I stop and contemplate further.

• Maybe the test has a glitch in it. (Yeah right).
• Is it really my problem that people are lying on the net to get people to spend money? (If I don’t say something, who will).
• Is this a fight I want to get into? (There’s so much bullshit out there… someone’s gotta call it!)

I do some more digging. Who is this Carol Tuttle woman? Before I find that out, I discover her Chakra Healing product is fronted by a group called MindValley:

“…a ground-breaking company comprised of innovators, artists, technologist and dreamers from over 30 countries around the world.

Founded in 2003, Vishen’s vision for Mindvalley was to build a company whose mission was to bring enlightenment and personal growth to the world in a scalable way using a hybrid of marketing and technology.”

Man, now I’m really doubting myself. They sound so good, they’re so huge, they’re doing all these things.. but…

So I ask Lucinda Staniland to take the test, and take screenshots of her answers. She does. Her results are mostly Weak, with a closed Heart and an open Throat.

Lucinda’s answers point to an open or strong chakra, yet she got Closed. WTF???

Oh yes, there’s something about the integrity of that Three Minute Chakra Test that pisses me off.

• Is the Test rigged so everyone who answers it gets the same general answers no matter what? (Closed or weak chakras and you need help).
• Does Carol Tuttle know her Test is rigged? Is it a marketing technique?
• Does MindValley know one of the products they publish and market uses dishonesty to sell it?

And if they know, do they care? Likely not.

But I do.

I care deeply.

Truth matters – and surely in the world of yoga and alternative healing etc… truth is sacrosanct!!! It’s the whole bloody point!

(I know, I’m on my high horse right now, I’m pissed!)

Plus I saw that ad on a yoga website…

So here’s what I’m suggesting we do, as the YLB community. If you’ve got 10 minutes to spare, please click on the Test, answer the questions, and see what results you get. If you want to, record the answers you put in to see if they actually correlate to your results.

Email me with details of your experience. Or answer in a comment below.

Once I get enough test results, I’ll be able to see if it is Bullshit or not. And I’ll contact MindValley and see what their response is.

Oh, one other thing I noticed… the unsubscribe link at the top of the email with the test results doesn’t work. At least, it doesn’t work in my email provider. I did two tests, neither link worked. I had to scroll to the end of the email and click Manage Your Subscriptions to Unsubscribe.

I don’t want to jump to any conclusions here folks… but dodgy. Very, very dodgy.

Go investigate for yourself – take the test. Tell me what you think.

Oh… something I haven’t even covered here. What does it mean if a chakra is ‘closed’? What does it mean if it’s ‘open’? We bandy these terms around as if they have meaning… but there’s so much more to it than a simple open/closed!

As Adhyatma of Kalpataru Yoga said:

Chakras dont really even close or open ….its more like they are active, over active or under active.

They could never be safely ‘tested’ by anyone unless they had absolute Viveka and Vairagya (Detachment and Discrimination). And even then if they did, the teachers I know who have Viveka and Vairagya and are qualified to ‘test’ chakras …well they just wouldn’t! They would work with you on another level so balance and change happened naturally.

I would be very discerning if anyone offered to test or ‘heal’ my chakras.

When I muscletest, anything about chakras, what I get is chakras are made up. Meridians are true, but chakras are b.s.

Whatever I have seen about Carol Tuttle shows me that there is more marketing there than content, and the marketing is quite clever, makes you curious, hints on that Carol can make a difference for you.

My hunch is that she can’t and she won’t… but you are the one who needs to make the decision.
