Most of you come to me for confirmation. Confirmation that what you know is true, that who you are and how you “do” life is ok…
A handful of you are somewhat open.
Now, I don’t say that you know this about yourself… this article is to wake you up, to bring awareness to this, so you can be conscious of it.
If you actually came here for what I am offering, you’d consider surrendering your ego, your knowledge, because unless you start with empty, you can’t fill yourself up.
You come to me like the person in the Zen story… where the Zen master continued pouring the tea after the cup was full. 1
I have had a huge advantage over you: I was never interested in knowledge. I think it runs in my family. I wasn’t willing to even memorize formulas that could be derived using knowledge: a lot of professors gave me a hard time at University, but I wasn’t willing to change.
My issue was not knowledge about stuff, but knowledge about people… I seemed to ALREADY KNOW how they were, so I learned to empty my cup: say how I remember them being, and disown that knowledge.
Another way to say that process: I disabused myself of that knowledge. I went into interactions empty and not knowing what to expect.
It is a whole different world than yours: your knowledge about things, about yourself, about life, about people is set in stone, and life can never change unless what you hold as truth changes.
So you come to me ALREADY KNOWING: knowing that you are high vibration, that you are a good person, that you are a healer, an empath, a sage, blah blah blah.
Out of 100 people who ask for their vibrational measurement, 90 leave in disgust right away, and another 9 leaves later.
For them I am just the guy from the diner, someone who knows everything about everything, from politics to religion, and will tell you, whether you ask for it or not.
Some of you last sometimes months, but the moment I disabuse you of your grand vision of you, your illusion, you take your marbles and go home.
You pay the big bucks to guys who tell you that you are a spiritual being having a human experience. You pay the money, unbeknownst to you as a reward of not asking you to change, not asking you to BE different. They don’t ask you to change your mind. They don’t ask you to empty your mind. And why don’t they? Because they are smart: they know that you won’t… and they know that the moment they did that, you would stop paying.
You want confirmation, not transformation. You buy the confirmation for the big bucks… and poopoo the people, like myself, who want to take you to the journey where you can become fulfilled, beautiful, spiritual, and joyful.
I am OK with that… I just wanted YOU to get aware that that is what you are doing. Because if you really become aware, maybe you’ll drop this illusion.
When you bring consciousness to anything, that “thing” instantly changes…
- One of my favorite stories concerns a Buddhist scholar and a Zen Master. The scholar had an extensive background in Buddhist Studies and was an expert on the Nirvana Sutra. He came to study with the master and after making the customary bows, asked her to teach him Zen. Then, he began to talk about his extensive doctrinal background and rambled on and on about the many sutras he had studied.
The master listened patiently and then began to make tea. When it was ready, she poured the tea into the scholar’s cup until it began to overflow and run all over the floor. The scholar saw what was happening and shouted, “Stop, stop! The cup is full; you can’t get anymore in.”
The master stopped pouring and said: “You are like this cup; you are full of ideas about Buddha’s Way. You come and ask for teaching, but your cup is full; I can’t put anything in. Before I can teach you, you’ll have to empty your cup.”
